1. How does OTON create games without developers or programmers?

We designed OTON with software to create games based on key system request. A user can play the games OTON creates or the user has the option to create games based on OTON easy-to-follow directions in the Create Game tab. The Create Game tab presents some amazing game creation settings that really take gaming to another level. OTON possesses the capability to create over a quadrillion games, levels, characters, power-up configurations and all for free! A basic OTON unit is $179, a premium unit is $279 and a Supreme unit is $479 - only during our crowdsource phase. That’s a $100 retail savings per unit.

Note: The basic unit does not come with laser projection camera. The premium unit comes with the laser projection, and the supreme OTON supports both laser projection camera and front-facing motion and voice camera.

2. Can OTON play Android games?

Yes, we designed OTON to support Android games, Linux games and licensed games. We believe a game console should play anything, hence the name game console. OTON will support some of the most popular Android and Linux games that will be on OTON. The system will undergo updates regularly to support many game formats.

3. Why are you charging my credit card before the unit ships?

We have to charge your card in advance because all payments are immediately sent to the manufacturer after the 30 days to speed up the process. This is a very expensive project, and the quicker we can get suppliers paid the sooner we can get OTON into your hands. The quicker we get our contract manufacturer paid and ready to go, the quicker we can possibly meet our expected launch date. Our manufacturer has over 30 years experience in this space, and when we demoed the basic software they were amazed and aggressively snapped into action to help us move forward.

A product of this scale isn't new to us. Since we have developed this project without the support of kickstarter or any initial funds, we felt it was important to get things moving quickly to show the best results. We have programmed our system, once we officially launch, so our contractors and developers can log into the OTON system and provide direct updates into all donors’ accounts with the latest news and progress! We have successfully released a similar system in small quantities, and we have the experience to get it done.

4. Is OTON X open?

Yes, to a degree. You can mod some OTON games or co-create with a friend or family member. Our system supports Linux and Android applications. The hardware is not open. It’s protected under the same requirements outlined by the OEM partners. The OEM parts such as the laser projection camera and motion camera are regulated by the manufacturer’s terms of use. Beyond the hardware, knock yourself out and have fun!

5. Is OTON X a fork of the EVO 2 console?

In a way yes, but OTON X is independent device and complete new project. The original idea for EVO 2 was to be powered by Android and we made that announcement in January 2012. However, as we were half way done with development a similar console was announced and we felt that instead of doing the exact same system we had to do something 20 times better. Our OTON was under development for 3 years as a personal side project. We felt OTON had a deeper rich application set that gave us a niche that no other console was thinking about. EVO will continue as a PC but the console work will cycle over to OTON X.

6. Will OTON take over the world?

We hope not! That’s the first thing people think when we pitch our autonomous system. The system is driven by artificial intelligence powered by its Game Creation Engine. We designed OTON with these three central points: creation, automation and intelligence. This dynamic can open up some amazing applications and extraordinary gamer challenges you can’t get with any other system. The OTON X (Gen One) version is the basic platform, and as the system improves, we feel the OTON X (Gen Two) model will possess capabilities to create more cool stuff, but not taking over the world. 7. What is the OTON Preview OS disc?

You can purchase the OTON preview disc for this kickstarter project for only $49 or it comes free with a $179, $279 or $479 system donation. The purpose of the OTON preview disc is to solicit community support to provide feedback, create games and to test new OTON code. While you wait on your console you can experience OTON on a smaller scale. This OS is powered by Ubuntu 12.10. This OS software will transform/split into two pieces of software development. One will become our custom Otonomous desktop OS and the other will become the operating system for the console. The disc is a two-for-one deal. We will do most of our OTON community updates via this disc.

You can expect more from OTON as the platform progresses and as we gain traction. Plus, grab your gamer tags first before the system is released to the public. Our followers will love some of the future updates to the desktop OS and console platform.

NOTICES: This disc is a Linux OS and functions like a regular Ubuntu 12.10 and comes with the OTON UI for testing and feedback only. This is not the final version of this OS. We have plans to make this OS autonomous. You can install on a new PC, dual boot, or try some features on live CD mode.

8. I’m a game developer. How will OTON help me?

We have good news for you too! First, all developers who develop games for OTON won’t pay a dime! That’s right! You demo your game for OTON and we won’t charge you a single penny! 9. Will OTON be available outside US?

Yes, if the support for an overseas release is positive. We would need to do volume units to cover the extra cost for overseas release such as government license and testing requirements. 10. What else can OTON do beyond gaming?

Much more! OTON X is a dedicated autonomous game console, but it can be used for much more. Risks and Challenges

The biggest challenge with OTON X was producing its next generation software and a functional prototype. We have a proven concept, that went through three years of iterations and we are currently finalizing the board design. The final product may slightly differ in size (may be bigger) and performance (may be faster). The current team has over 10 years of manufacturing and developing history.

The boards are pre-examined and verified with hardware specialist at a NJ based manufacturing company, where we decided to produce the boards. Our funding goals cover a minimal batch of systems, programming, FCC/UL testing and packaging.

We plan to finish the production of the basic OTON X in June 2013; we left enough time until the release to solve any unexpected problems. If needed, our talented team with diverse set of skills will do a great job in problem solving.
